US’ Gaylord, Michigan set a new record for the most snow in a day on Friday with 24.8 inches (64 cm), according to the weather service’s Gaylord office. Hurricane Milton has weakened into a tropical storm, with its winds diminishing to 35 kmph, after making landfall on Florida’s eastern coast on Tuesday. The US National Hurricane Center said that Milton is “likely to be a significant hurricane” with winds up to 93 kmph. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis declared a state of emergency in the state.

Before Hurricane Idalia makes its way towards the state, Florida rushes to make final preparations

Florida has declared a state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Idalia which is expected to hit the state on Wednesday. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has also declared a state of emergency in 46 of its 67 counties. Idalia, with winds of up to 155 kilometres per hour, is one of the most powerful hurricanes to make landfall in US in over a decade.
