Powerful new winds can affect recovery efforts in LA
The total number of people under evacuation orders in Los Angeles and Ventura counties has decreased to about 92,000, with 89,000 people under evacuation warnings, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said on Monday. He added that there will be new warnings as high winds come back over the coming few days. Red flag warnings remain in effect for parts of Los Angeles.

More than 132 buildings have been destroyed in the 2004 Santa Paula fire in California, US, according to Ventura County firefighter James Fryhoff. Ten people have been injured in the course of the fire, Ventura County Sheriff James Fryhoff said. The fire in Santa Paula spread over 5,000 acres and is 50% contained, officials said.

Hundreds of thousands of people have been left without power after tornadoes and severe thunderstorms hit parts of the US on Sunday. Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said four people were killed in four different counties after storms ripped through the state on Sunday. At least 18 people have been killed in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas, according to local media reports.

Dozens of people have been killed in southern Gaza
The Israeli military said on Tuesday that it had encircled Khan Younis in southern Gaza, a significant step in its effort to defeat Hamas. Israel began its war against Hamas on July 8. Over the course of a single day, Israel airstrikes killed 190 people and wounded340 others in the Gaza enclave, said the health ministry.

The UN has said that it has received the first outside access to Gaza’s biggest hospital, Al-Shifa Hospital, which was recently seized by Israel. A UN humanitarian assessment team visited the hospital on Saturday and saw first hand the dire circumstances of the facility, the groups said. Israel had ordered 2,500 people to leave the hospital grounds by the time the team arrived.

The hospital in Gaza had an explosion
At least 500 people have been killed in the explosion at a hospital in Gaza on Wednesday night, the Palestinian health ministry said. It added that the explosion had been caused by an Israeli airstrike, but the Israeli military denied any attack. Israeli soldiers were killed in the attack, according to the Jerusalem Post.
