Texas and Oklahoma residents were told to seek shelter after a tornado damaged homes

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings in US’ Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Arkansas during the Memorial Day weekend. At least 18 people have been killed in the tornadoes and thunderstorms. The weather service office in Tulsa, Oklahoma, warned on Sunday on a dangerous storm moving across the northeast part of the state through 2 am.

A rare solar eclipse darkened skies and dazzled viewers across the US on Tuesday. The moon briefly blocked the sun’s rays, causing a partial solar eclipse and the longest annular eclipse of the year. The eclipse took place between 1:23 pm and 2:49 pm (local time) in parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Louisiana.

The fires in Texas offer a terrifying warning

Several wildfires in Texas, US have killed at least 15 people and destroyed thousands of homes. The Smokehouse Creek fire has also crossed into Oklahoma. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that individual ranchers could suffer huge losses from the fires, but he was optimistic that the impact on the state’s cattle and beef industry would be minimal.

There are large swaths of the U.S. facing severe weather

The US’ midsection was under a blizzard warning for the first time this season, with up to 6 inches of snow expected in some areas. A blizzard warning was also issued for parts of Texas and Oklahoma, as well as for parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Montana, Idaho and Nevada. As much as 10 inches of snow had been reported in the Chicago area.
