Extreme weather dominates in the U.S

Snow and cold conditions will reach parts of the US in coming days, the National Weather Service has said. “The cold weather is expected to stick around going into next week with dangerously low temperatures and wind chills through at least midweek,” it added. The cold weather is also expected to affect US states of Missouri, Iowa, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wyoming.

This year, the world experienced record-breaking temperatures due to COVID-19 from the use of fossil fuels, said a report by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Hundreds of thousands of people were without power in parts of the US on Monday amid a major coastal storm in theNortheast that is expected to cause high winds, heavy rains and flooding. The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a Coastal Flood Warning for Philadelphia, New York and Boston. The storm is expected to hit the US on Monday morning.

Tropical storm Hilary is approaching Southern California and parts of the Southwest on Sunday, bringing fierce winds and historic rainfall to areas that have not seen tropical storm conditions in more than 80 years. Hilary is moving near the Baja California peninsula. It’s expected to sweep across southern California by the afternoon, according to the National Weather Service.
