North Carolina recorded a record 48-hour rainfall of 29.58 inches on Friday, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). It said that Busick received 29.58 inches of rainfall and Mount Mitchell received 24.20 inches of rainfall in just over an hour. The Georgia Climate Office said that the area has seen more rain than any other place in recorded history.

The National Weather Service issued tornado warnings and severe thunderstorm warnings in US’ Texas, Oklahoma, Kentucky and Arkansas during the Memorial Day weekend. At least 18 people have been killed in the tornadoes and thunderstorms. The weather service office in Tulsa, Oklahoma, warned on Sunday on a dangerous storm moving across the northeast part of the state through 2 am.

Flooding and flooding in the presence of a tropical storm and a Category 5 hurricane has made hurricanes stronger, drawing strength from heat energy at sea surface, National Weather Service (NWS) director Ken Graham said. He added that there has been record high water temperature in the tropical Atlantic recently and this heat is expected to last into peak months of the Atlantic hurricane season.

The National Weather Service has issued a blizzard warning for the Sierra Nevada in Northern California. The storm system is expected to bring 10 feet of snow to parts of the Sierra Nevada and winds will reach up to 150 mph. Further, a winter storm warning has also been issued for most of Northern California on Friday and Saturday.

Snow and cold conditions will reach parts of the US in coming days, the National Weather Service has said. “The cold weather is expected to stick around going into next week with dangerously low temperatures and wind chills through at least midweek,” it added.
