Hurricane Milton is likely to hit the US’ west coast as early as Wednesday afternoon, with tropical storm conditions beginning later in the day, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said on Tuesday. It will be the fifth hurricane this year to make landfall in the US. In 2012, only two hurricanes were Category 1 when they hit the US.

Tropical Cyclone Milton is expected to make landfall off western coast of Florida late Wednesday or Thursday. According to the US National Hurricane Center, Milton has seen a sharp increase in winds over the last 24 hours. The coast of the Yucatan Peninsula is under a hurricane warning, while hurricane watches, storm surge watches and tropical storm watches are in effect for parts of the Florida Peninsula.

Tropical Storm Debby, which is expected to hit the Florida coast next week, has gained strength as it moved north of Cuba. “We could see a stall or a meandering motion around coastal portions of southeastern United States,” National Hurricane Center Director Michael Brennan said. At least 9 people have died as Hurricane ylbe made landfall in Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula on Thursday, the US National Hurricane Center said. Hurricane ylbe is forecast to move inland across northern Yucatan Peninsula during the day. Further, a storm surge of four to six feet and damaging waves are expected as the storm moves inland.

Tropical Cyclone Beryl, which is the earliest Atlantic Hurricane to reach a Category 5 designation, has weakened to a Category 3 storm. The winds will rapidly increase within the eyewall, the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. Barbados warned against a tropical hurricane on Monday after Beryl had passed onto the island of Carriacou and Petite Martinique.

Tropical Storm Warnings were issued for New England because of Hurricane Lee
A tropical storm warning has been issued for part of coastal Massachusetts including Nantucket, Martha’s and Cape Cod due to the “supersonic Lee Event”. The National Hurricane Center has said its hurricane and tropical storm watches referred to conditions expected on Saturday. The storm surge will be 2 to 4 feet above ground if the storm surge peaks along with high tide, forecasters said.

Hilary is a tropical storm and it could be the first tropical storm in 80 years to hit California
Tropical storm watches were issued for the Los Angeles, Santa Barbara and Orange County areas in California after Hurricane Hilary hit Mexico’s Yucatan peninsula. Hilary is expected to bring heavy rains to the West Coast and Southwest United States through the weekend. “Tropical storm conditions are possible within the watch area, generally within 48 hours,” the National Hurricane Center said.
