The top consumer watchdog in the US has a plan
The US Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is proposing a rule limiting data brokers’ ability to sell Americans’ sensitive personal and financial information. Under the proposal, data brokers would be limited in their ability to sell certain sensitive personal information, including financial data and credit score, phone numbers, Social Security numbers and addresses. This comes after high-profile hacks affecting hundreds of millions.

The UN agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA) has said it’s halting aid deliveries through the main cargo crossing into Gaza due to threat of armed gangs. Philippe Lazzarini, UNRWA’s head, said the route leading to the Kerem Shalom crossing from Israel is too dangerous on the Gaza side. Israel says it only targets militants but its strikes across Gaza kill women and children.

US’ Gaylord, Michigan set a new record for the most snow in a day on Friday with 24.8 inches (64 cm), according to the weather service’s Gaylord office. The lake-effect snow could accumulate to more than a foot (30 cm) over the eastern Upper Peninsula by the time it stops on Monday morning. New York has declared a state of emergency.

Social media platforms including Instagram and TikTok will be liable for fines of up to AU$30 million (around 220 crore) if they fail to comply with Australia’s social media age law. Under the law, platforms will have to take “reasonable steps” to remove underage users from their platforms. The bill passed the Australian Parliament last week.
