An Overview of the Asus Bios Updates for Z790 motherboards: Is It Still Compatible With Intel’s BIOS?
Asus has released its beta BIOS updates through its ROG forums for a variety of Z790 motherboards. This is posted a few days after they’re posted to its forums. The individual support pages for its motherboards have the latest bios updates on them.
If it works well, this could be a very big deal for Intel, which lost some of its reputation after its flagship chips were found to crash earlier this year and, after a long investigation, discovered there would be no true fix, requiring customers to replace any damaged chips. Intel has announced at least 15,000 layoffs this year and is stopped from doing non-essential work.
If you have an Asus board and want to check that your BIOS is set to the right power profile, Falcon Northwest has a good overview we’ve embedded below. The new bios updates should default to Intel settings, instead of the company’s own.

We’re also still waiting on Intel to provide a tool to test existing machines for any processor degradation. Intel has also extended its warranty on a variety of 13th and 14th Gen CPUs by an additional two years. If you own a PC, you will be able to see if it’s covered right here.
Intel’s current analysis finds there is a significant increase to the minimum operating voltage (Vmin) across multiple cores on affected processors due to elevated voltages. Vmin for the processor can increase due to elevated voltage events.
There are scenarios in which a Vmin shift could be possible on potentially impacted Intel Core 13th and 14th Gen desktop processors. Intel will provide updates by end of August.
There are some sub-tests showing moderate impacts that have been tested with Intel Default settings. For gaming workloads tested, performance has also been within run-to-run variation (eg. Cyberpunk 2077, Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Total War: Warhammer III – Mirrors of Madness) with one exception showing slightly more impact (Hitman 3: Dartmoor). However, system performance is dependent on configuration and several other factors.
