Increased Amazon carbon emissions can be explained by decline in law enforcement

Tropical Forest Experiments: Are We Near the Tipping Point? A Comment on Nobre and Gatti’s Paper by Luciana Gatti
All of the forest FACE experiments have so far been conducted in temperate regions, however. Many scientists think the Amazon might follow different rules. The first tropical-forest FACE experiment is finally under construction, 50 kilometres north of Manaus. It can help predict whether the increases in CO2 will benefit the Amazon.
Nobre now wonders whether his earlier study was too conservative. The paper by Luciana Gatti showed that the southern Amazon is becoming a carbon source. He is convinced that, although the Amazon is not at the tipping point yet, it might be soon.
Alencar, Silvestrini, R., Gomes, J., and G. Amazon are in flames and it is alarming. Amazon Environmental Research Institute provides a technical note about the new and alarming levels of forest loss in the Amazon.
Nobre and other colleagues estimated in their study that the Amazon would reach a tipping point if the planet warms by more than 2.5 C above pre-industrial temperatures. The planet is on track to reach 2.5 °C of warming by 2100, according to a report released by the United Nations last October.

Researchers have said that the southern Amazon is becoming a carbon source, due to decline in law enforcement in the region. They added that the world’s third-largest wetland has been losing vegetation at an average rate of 1 crore per year since 2015. The researchers also said that if global warming hits 2.5C above pre-industrial temperatures, the Amazon would reach a tipping point.
