Dozens of people have been killed in southern Gaza

The Gaza Strip is Essentially Besieged: Israeli Forces Are Trying to Suppress the Coalition in the War on Hamas

Medical personnel reported heavy gunfire and a surge of Israeli tanks and troops into southern Gaza on Monday.

More than 25,000 people have been killed in the Gaza Strip since Israel began its war against Hamas, according to the health authorities there.

Naseem Hasan, an ambulance officer at Nasser, said in an interview that tanks were about 100 meters south of the hospital and “can target anyone.” He said one ambulance carrying a person who had been shot in the head was not able to reach Nasser this morning and had to go to a hospital in Rafah — a journey that took three hours.

Ms. Farsakh said that Red Crescent crews had been receiving calls from people who were wounded across Khan Younis, including at the school in Al-Mawasi, and that the crews were unable to respond “because they are being targeted.”

Nebal Farsakh is a spokeswoman for the Red Crescent. “The whole district of Khan Younis is essentially besieged.”

Israel’s military said on Tuesday that it had encircled the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza, a significant step in its effort to defeat Hamas. The push has resulted in intense fighting and bombardments in an area packed with civilians who have fled from their homes in other parts of the territory.

Israeli forces, using thousands of airstrikes and a ground invasion, largely secured military control of northern Gaza before pushing south. The United Nations said this month that more than 60 percent of homes in Gaza had been damaged or destroyed during the campaign, while almost all of the strip’s 2.2 million people have been displaced from their homes.

According to NPR, six people were killed when a training center for UNRWA was struck. The training center had 30,000 people in it.

The Israeli military didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment. On Sunday, Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israeli forces in southern Gaza were acting with great precision and would be “expanding” their operations in Khan Younis.

“The plumes of smoke from the tanks, artillery and planes belonging to the Air Force will continue to cover the Gaza Strip’s skies until we achieve our goals, chief among them toppling Hamas and returning the hostages to their homes,” he said in a statement.

Over the course of a single day, Israeli strikes killed 190 people and wounded340 others in the Gaza enclave, said the health ministry. It did not specify how many of the casualties were in Khan Younis.

Israeli forces “targeted terrorist cells carrying R.P.G.s near the troops, those launching anti-tank missiles, and terror operatives who had rigged compounds with explosives,” the military said in a statement, referring to rocket-propelled grenade launchers. The military stated that numerous weapons and military compounds were located during the activity.

The Israeli prime minister began the campaign after more than 1,200 people were killed in a Hamas attack on the country. More than 100 of those hostages remain in captivity.

“The road was full of cars where you have mattresses and luggage on top of the cars fleeing from the Khan Younis area, using all means of transportation including carriages pulled by donkeys and horses,” he said. The same families, the same faces, the same scenes of desperation, of depression, of anxiety, are what can be seen in the pictures of the 1948 Nakba. He referred to the mass displacement of Palestinians during the establishment of Israel.

Zaher Sahloul, president of MedGlobal said that the number of evacuees from Khan Younis during the current fighting was shocking.

“There was targeted bombing and tanks, and it took us all by surprise. He said that they woke up to find the tanks in front of their houses, no one told them to leave the area. “I saw dead people on the ground, and the ambulances weren’t able to reach anyone to save them because of the shooting.”

The Israeli military said on Tuesday that it had encircled Khan Younis in southern Gaza, a significant step in its effort to defeat Hamas. Israel began its war against Hamas on July 8. Over the course of a single day, Israel airstrikes killed 190 people and wounded340 others in the Gaza enclave, said the health ministry.
