There is a manhunt for a political assassination suspect in Minnesota

“I am very big on just telling people to be a part of the process and vote your values,” he wrote, “and be part of this adventure we are all a part of living in the United States of America.”
In November 2018, Mr. Boelter urged his followers on LinkedIn to vote in that year’s election, saying he had been to countries where people could not elect their leaders and that were “not places that anyone of us would want to live in.”
The site said that Mr. Boelter traveled to violent areas in the Gaza Strip and West Bank in order to share the word of God and tell them that violence wasn’t the answer.
He said people in America don’t know what sex is. They are confused, because they do not know their sexual orientation. The enemy has gotten so far into their mind and their soul.”
Mr. Boelter has delivered several sermons at a church in the Democratic Republic of Congo. In a video of one that was posted online, he appeared to criticize gay and transgender people.
More recently, he had said on LinkedIn that he was the chief executive of a company called Red Lion Group, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, dedicated to creating “good jobs for local people,” according to its website.
State reports and his LinkedIn profile indicate that he was recently a general manager of a 7-Eleven in Minneapolis and, before that, had worked as the general manager of a gas station in St. Paul. A report in 2017 listed him as an executive at an energy company.
The suspect identified by the authorities, Vance Boelter, 57, was appointed several times by Minnesota governors to the Workforce Development Board, where he served with State Senator John A. Hoffman, who was shot and survived.

Mr. Boelter runs a private security company in Minnesota with his wife. The Boelters are listed as the director of security patrols and the president of Praetorian Guard Security Services. The firm’s website describes using Ford Explorer S.U.V.s, “the same make and model of vehicles that many police departments use.”
In an interview, Tina Smith, a Democrat of Minnesota, said that the attacker had a list with her name and other Democrats on it. There were about 70 potential targets, including doctors, community and business leaders, and locations for organizations that provide health care, according to a law enforcement official. There were targets in some other states.
The police have said that the suspect in the attacks went to the homes of the two state lawmakers pretending to be a police officer. He also shot and wounded Senator Hoffman, his wife, and his brother-in-law. He remains on the run.

A state report in 2016 listed Mr. Boelter’s political affiliation as “none or other,” and another report in 2020 listed him as having “no party preference.” Voters do not declare political affiliation when they register in Minnesota.
Mark Dayton was the governor when Mr. Boelter was appointed to the board. More recently, he was appointed by Gov. Tim Walz, also a Democrat. 41 members of the board were appointed by the governor, who wanted to improve business development in the state.
Drew Evans, the superintendent of the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, said investigators did not yet know how well the two knew each other, if at all.
In 2022. Mr. Boelter and Senator Hoffman attended a virtual meeting to discuss the job market after the coronaviruses outbreak.
Records show that the man suspected of shooting two Democratic state lawmakers served on a state board with one of the victims.
The police have said that the suspect in Saturday’s attacks, Vance Boelter, 57, disguised himself as a police officer before going to the homes of two state lawmakers in the Minneapolis suburbs.
The election will have more of an impact on the direction of our country than we’ve had before, and it will remain that way for years to come.

He talked with officials about private business projects that are moving forward. NPR wasn’t able to confirm the veracity of that claim.
Boelter apparently worked for a number of years as a convenience store and food services manager, posting this spring on LinkedIn that he was “looking to get back into the U.S. food industry.”
Evans said that they are still exploring that. “There are certainly some overlap with some public meetings, I will say, with Senator Hoffman and the individual but we don’t know the nature of the relationship or if they actually knew each other.”
This act was a form of political violence. Peaceful discourse is the foundation of our democracy. “We don’t settle our differences with violence or at the risk of their lives,” was the message from Walz, who ordered flags in the state to be flown at half-staff.
The order said that Hortman was determined to make our state a better place. “She served the people of Minnesota with grace, compassion, and tirelessness.”
The nationwide search is still on for Boelter who was the primary suspect in the murders of a Minnesota lawmaker and her husband.

The Investigation of Paul A. Boelter’s Criminal Apprehensions Using a Law Firm with a Division of Investigations in Minnesota
There was no record of the firm giving any services. A private phone line appears to be connected to the company’s phone number. The address listed in incorporation papers appeared to be that of a law firm specializing in divorce litigation.
Boelter hoped to open a security firm and purchase police-style automobiles, but the project never came to fruition. “That was some fantasy. There was talk about it, but there was no movement,” he said.
Mr. Carlson said that Mr. Boelter was a Christian who opposed abortion. He didn’t talk about politics and never mentioned either of the lawmakers who were shot. He said Mr. Boelter had been experiencing financial and mental health challenges.
The bureau of criminal apprehensions of Minnesota is now focused on the background of Boelter, as part of their investigation, Drew Evans said during a press conference Saturday.
Numerous lawmakers and public officials in Minnesota, including Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, a Democrat, have said publicly they were on a list of other individuals allegedly considered targets by Boelter.
He is unsure of what the motivation is for the writings and it would be premature for him to say.

Evans said law enforcement recovered a message from Boelter which hasn’t yet been made public.
The police executed a search warrant at David Carlson’s address in Minneapolis and he said that his best friend since fourth grade is Mr. Boelter. Mr. Boelter’s listed address is in Green Isle, Minn., about an hour’s drive away. Mr. Carlson said that Mr. Boelter lived in the same house as him for several days a week.

Mr. Carlson read a text message that he had received from Mr. Boelter early on Saturday morning, in which he wrote that he might be dead soon. Mr. Carlson says the message didn’t give any details of the attacks.
The tax forms show that Mr. Boelter and his wife once ran a Christian nonprofit. Mr Boelter was described as an ordination minister in the group’s website.
It was not clear when the video was uploaded, but Mr. Boelter said he worked six days a week for two funeral homes in the Minneapolis area. He worked with police officers and death investigators and helped to remove bodies from crime scenes.
The mortuary science program at the Des Moines Area Community College was taken by Mr. Boelter in the year 2023 and the year 2024.
On Friday, Mr. Boelter had given Mr. Carlson four months’ worth of advance rent payments — which was about $220 a month — for a small room in the shared house. Mr. Carlson left him alone because he said he needed some rest.
