Powerful new winds can affect recovery efforts in LA

Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna: Evacuation Orders, High Winds, and a New Fire Rate in the Light of Recent Eviction Warnings

Currently the number of people under evacuation orders has dropped to about 92,000, with 89,000 people under evacuation warnings, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said Monday. There will be new warnings as high winds come back over the next few days.

Red flag warnings remain in effect for parts of Los Angeles and Ventura counties through Wednesday, While the wind storm is not forecast to be as strong as last week’s winds the NWS is warning of “damaging winds gusting between 55 and 70 mph.”

More strong winds are expected in LA and Ventura counties over the coming days as officials work to contain and recover from the fires. As fires burn across the decimated areas, these will create dangerous conditions and the possibility of new fires.

Several people are dead and thousands of structures have been devastated by fires in Los Angeles as firefighters fight to keep the blazes from spreading.
