Investigators identified the Tesla driver — who was burned beyond recognition — as Livelsberger by a tattoo and by comparing DNA from relatives. The cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot to the head, according to coroners officials.

Authorities are trying to understand why someone would act that way. Among the charred items found inside the truck were a handgun at Livelsberger’s feet, another firearm, fireworks, a passport, a military ID, credit cards, an iPhone and a smartwatch, McMahill said. Authorities said both guns were purchased legally.
Livelsberger was an active-duty Special Operations soldier with the U.S. Army. There are similarities with the man who drove a pickup onto the sidewalk in New Orleans, killing at least 15 and injuring dozens more on New Years Day. McMahill said both men served at Fort Bragg in North Carolina, though there’s no indication they served in the same unit. They also both served in Afghanistan in 2009, and they both used the rental car app Turo to rent the vehicles used in these attacks. Additional parallels are not known, Mc Mahill said. Law enforcement and intelligence officials are investigating any potential connection between the two incidents.
Livelsberger was a member of the active duty Army from January 2006 to March 2011. He then joined the National Guard from March 2011 to July 2012, followed by the Army Reserve from July 2012 to December 2012.

On Wednesday, Las Vegas police said that crews pulled gasoline canisters, camp fuel canisters and large firework mortars from the back of the Cybertruck. The explosion, which was caught on video, also injured seven people.
The FBI in Las Vegas is working closely with local law enforcement to learn more about the explosion. The FBI was trying to determine if it was a terrorist attack.
Christopher Raia, FBI deputy assistant director with the agency’s counterterrorism division, told reporters at a press conference that there is no evidence that anyone else is involved in the attack.
Raia said there is nothing to indicate that he was aided in this attack by anyone and that investigators were combing through five electronic devices, three cellphones and two laptops.
This is a change in the FBI’s initial assessment on Wednesday that it was likely Jabbar did not act alone and the agency was searching for information that could lead to additional suspects who may have aided in the attack.
The driver rented a white F-150 on Monday in Houston before heading to New Orleans on Tuesday, according to Raia. Raia said that, while he planned to hurt his family and friends, he was worried the news headlines would not focus on the “war between the believers and the disbelievers” in the aftermath of the Paris terrorist attacks. Before the summer of 2024, he said, he joined the group.
