Is Israel relenting because of the challenge from medical groups?
A Palestinian doctor in Gaza Strip has said that Israel’s restrictions on volunteer medical missions since its offensive have severely limited the number of medical expertise going into the Strip. Dr Ali al-Masri, who has treated over 100 patients in Gaza, said that most hospitals have been destroyed or heavily damaged and local medical personnel have been killed or repeatedly displaced.

The Supreme Court stopped the EPA plan to keep smog from drifting across state lines
US Supreme Court has ordered a stay on environmental enforcement of the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Good Neighbor plan to prevent smog pollution from drifting across state borders. The EPA had earlier decided to implement its own emissions-control program for 23 states that had failed to submit sufficient plans. Several states including Ohio and large industrial companies had challenged the plan.

A report by 35 UN agencies and aid groups has said that nearly all of Gaza is struggling with food shortages, amid a conflict between Israel and Hamas. It added that around five lakh people are facing food shortages and nearly all of Gaza is facing food shortages. However, it said the “available evidence does not indicate that famine is currently occurring”.

Flooding in parts of US’ Midwest has killed at least 13 people, officials said on Wednesday. The death toll was higher than the number of people who have died in two previous floods that have killed at least six in the region. Scientists have an answer to how fish know where music comes from
Researchers have studied the pressure and particle motion of lateral line-ablated fish using a particle image velocimetry toolbox. They analysed the motion of inner structures of the fish using Matlab 2019b and particle image velocimetry toolbox PIVlab80, originally developed to characterise the motion of flowing particles in fluid mechanics. The experiment was conducted in the dark in 43 untreated fish.

The US military is facing a shortage of maternity care, mental health care and primary care services at its military bases, according to a Pentagon report. Of the 500 military bases surveyed, half had no access to a health care provider, the report said. According to data released by the military earlier, nearly half of its base population lives in “health care deserts”.

An Indian-origin woman, who underwent a gene-editing treatment after being diagnosed with a rare brain tumour, has said she never thought she’d get sick. Uditi Devinsky, who underwent an experimental treatment, said she couldn’t believe her luck. “When I was born, my father said I wouldn’t be able to live…but…I’m here today,” she added. She was diagnosed with oligodendroglioma, a rare brain tumour.

Israel may have used fake social media accounts to influence US lawmakers
Israel’s Ministry of Diaspora Affairs earmarked around 17 crore for a TikTok campaign that targeted US lawmakers, media reports have claimed. The accounts posed as American citizens and posted pro-Israel messages, calling on Congress to fund Israel’s military operations. Israel’s Foreign Affairs Minister said the embassy was not taking part in the TikTok campaign and spreading disinformation should not be used recklessly.

FDA reviews MDMA for treatment of post traumatic stress disorder; Biden will issue an executive order on border policy
A panel of experts that advise the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on the use of MDMA did not find the evidence to show that the drug was effective or its benefits outweighed its risks. “Although we do have two positive studies, the results are in the context of dramatic functional unblinding,” Dr David Millis, clinical reviewer for the FDA, said.
