Abortion in the Land: Trump’s View of the State and its Legislative Implications for the Constitution and Future Laws
Donald Trump does not speak from conviction. He speaks from self-obsession, not belief. He certainly does not speak from anything we might recognize as reason; when he’s holding forth from a podium, even the most careful students of Trump the rhetorician will struggle to find the light of complex thought.
He was also asked about the recent decision in Florida, his home state, to allow a 6-week ban to take effect. In response, Trump implied that he wants Arizona and Florida to loosen their abortion restrictions. But while criticizing those states’ bans, he also said he supports states’ rights to decide their own abortion policies.
The position is a conservative departure from mainstream thinking. Most Americans support the legality of legal abortion under the law of the land known as the “Constitutional status quo.” The Supreme Court has left abortion rights up to the states since 2008, in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.
Why Donald Trump is the owner of the suffering and chaos because he proudly overturned abortion laws in Arizona, a statement by the Biden campaign
The presumptive Republican presidential nominee shook his head and said “no” when the shouted question about whether he would sign a ban was thrown at him.
The states are putting out their own versions of it. It’s the will of the people,” he said. “So Florida’s probably going to change, Arizona’s going to definitely change, everybody wants that to happen.”
Since the overturn of Roe v. Wade, abortion rights have repeatedly won in statewide ballot measures. In state legislature elections abortion has been shown to motivate voters. Both Florida and Arizona will likely see a question on abortion access on their ballots this fall.
With that in mind, the Biden campaign has been attacking Trump on abortion rights throughout this campaign. The statement was released by the Biden campaign.
Michael Tyler, communications director said that Donald Trump is the owner of the suffering and chaos because he proudly overturned the abortion law in Arizona.
US Presidential candidate Donald Trump on Monday said that he supports states’ rights to decide their own abortion policies. “Florida and Arizona are probably going to change, Arizona’s going to definitely change, everybody wants that to happen,” he said. Notably, the US Supreme Court had left abortion rights up to the states since 2008.
