The next stages of the war against Hamas: Israeli airstrikes in the occupied West Bank and in the northern city of Aleppo

An Israeli military spokesperson said his country is intensifying its bombing campaign in the Gaza Strip as part of the “next stages of the war” against Hamas.

There were five Palestinians killed on Sunday. 13 people, including five children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike during a battle last week in a West Bank refugee camp.

Israel has confirmed that 212 people are being held hostage in Gaza. Military spokesperson Lt. Col. Richard Hecht said on Sunday that Israeli strikes overnight had killed dozens of Palestinian fighters, including the deputy chief of Hamas rocket forces.

The Israeli military warned many Palestinians that they might be caught up in a terrorist organization if they did not move from northern Gaza to the south. There have been strikes in the south of Gaza which make it hard to know whether moving is safe.

The strike was part of surging violence in the West Bank, as the Israeli military pursues Palestinian militants. According to the AP, at least 90 Palestinians have been killed in the past two weeks in clashes with Israeli troops.

In the occupied West Bank, Israel rarely uses air power. Over 700 people have been taken into custody by Israel in the West Bank since the start of hostilities.

Israel launched strikes against Hezbollah targets on the border with Lebanon on Saturday, after one of its soldiers was hit by an anti-tank missile. The deputy leader of Hezbollah said that they were in the centre of the fight on Saturday, the day the group said six of its fighters were killed.

To the northeast, Syrian state media reported that Israeli airstrikes early Sunday targeted the international airports of the Syrian capital Damascus and the northern city of Aleppo, killing one person. The runways had to be put out of service. The Israeli military had no immediate comment.

Hamas, the Pentagon and the Gaza Strip: First aid convoys from Egypt after the Gaza Bombing Campaign and their understanding of the Israeli attack on Gaza

He stated that the Pentagon was going to deploy an anti-ballistic missile defense system named the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense to the Middle East, as well as additional air defense missile system battalions.

The U.S. has deployed a significant amount of naval power to the area in recent weeks, including two aircraft carriers, their support ships and about 2,000 Marines.

Humanitarian efforts are still focusing on aid convoys to the Gaza Strip after some aid finally got through to the enclave. The first aid to arrive in Gaza since the Israeli bombardment campaign began two weeks ago was from Egypt on Saturday, with 20 trucks carrying medicine, medical supplies and food.

Loaded on the trucks were medical supplies for trauma treatment and chronic disease, the World Health Organization said Saturday. The delivery also included some food, mattresses and blankets. Aid groups said fuel was needed to power the hospitals and the desalination plants for water.

Lynn Hastings, U.N. Humanitarian Coordinator in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, told NPR that the arrival of the trucks Saturday “represents a very small first but important start. Obviously it’s really a drop in the bucket.”

Hamas has not presented any evidence to back its allegation that Israel bombed a hospital in Gaza City, and cannot provide any details to support its count of dead and injured.

As evidence against the Hamas claim came to light in the days following the blast, the Gazan authorities changed their story. Spokespeople have released death tolls varying from 500 to 833, before settling on 471.

On Sunday, Hamas turned down requests by The Times to view any available evidence of the munition it said had struck the hospital, claiming that it had disintegrated beyond recognition.

A senior Hamas official claims that the missile has dissolved into the water. “It’s vaporized. Nothing is left.”

The head of the Hamas-run media office said in a text message that they do not need to present the remnants of every rocket that killed their people. You can come and research and confirm for yourself the evidence we have.
